On Saturday, I was sitting all tucked in my cozy bed preparing my message for Sunday, and outside my door I could here the beautiful chatter of my daughter having a conversation with her daddy. My heart felt like exploding.
There is something about the way their “chatter” sounds. Talking about apples, apple pie, and apple picking. What being “dedicated” means, and how to load the dishwasher. It’s a comforting sound. Giggles and ‘I love you’s,’ talking about nothing and everything.
I imagine it’s the same beautiful sound when we’re just hanging with our Father… God The Father. He is not absent by any stretch of the imagination, but ready to hear your “chatter” the moment you arise from your bed in the morning. He has been watching over you as you sleep (in the most un-creepy manner) and can’t wait for you to wake up. He is ever present and loves to banter with you about the seemingly small stuff, to the moments where you need the biggest miracle of your life (thus far).
He has not abandoned you or left you to figure it out all by yourself. He is there with you at the kitchen sink, ready to have a conversation. He is there with you on the commute to work ready to speak and ready to listen. He is there with you when you hear the most awful news, embracing you when there are no words to speak – or just being there quietly as a peaceful presence. He is there with you when you feel lost, alone and afraid reaching out His hand to you if you’d like to take it – but no pressure. He is there with you when you lie in your bed in the morning, contemplating whether you will rise and take on the day, or go back to sleep because it all feels like too much. He is there. Speak. Listen. Giggle. Laugh uncontrollably. Cry. Shout. Whisper. Sing. Be.
